In late 2007, a recall was issued for 215/70R14 tires by Goodyear and many of its other brands, including the NWHY DOT coded Douglas Xtra-Tracs on my Torino. Since at the time, this car was sitting in a pawn shop lot awaiting pickup or resale, no one knew. I bought the car, it's always been wobbly, I just choose to drive at a speed below the wobble at 58-60mph. No problem. But evidently this is a recalled tire from a voluntary recall campaign over tread separation when installed on heavier vehicles like Aerostars and, well, big sedans like my Torino. So did you know that if the campaign is voluntary and not required by the government, that it can expire like a can of tuna? This recall is expired. So I'm rolling on time bombs because Goodyear took the easy way out. 400,000 tires and they probably didn't even have to exchange HALF of them.
I say screw it, I'm putting 16" Crown Vic steelies on. Got one already, got my center caps and collared lugs, now I gotta go pull 3 more tires/wheels and pick up a set of trim rings. Problem being, the tires on these CVPI wheels are typically Eagle RS-A's. Fail.
I need some Yokohama AVID's!
