Diplomat with a tee roof
« on: February 28, 2014, 12:09:59 »

I have a 1979 Dodge Diplomat as far as I know it is all original I am the third owner and personally knew the first owner (now passed away) It has a Tee roof which was not uncommon in the Polaris model. I can not find any info other than the VIN decoder page I am looking for some one who can verify this was actually original equipment. I can post pics of the car once the snow goes. My question is does anyone else own a car of this year with a Tee roof

If the car had t-tops from the factory, there will be an M55 code on the data tag (or fender tag) under the hood.
On the rear of the driver's door, by where the VIN decal is, there should be another decal which states the car was modified by Cars and Concepts though that decal could have be faded or fallen off.

Thank you for the info I will look for the fender tag you mentioned. You were right about the door tag being faded lol The original owner told me before my son bought the car that he had purchased it new in Los Angeles. The salesman told him only 75 of these cars were made with the T-roof. If original as I hope it is how would I go about finding out how many more are left.

That may be an impossibility.
You'd basically have to trace the history of the other 74 cars.
If those numbers are indeed correct.

1979 Diplomat t-top numbers:
Diplomat (base) VIN starts with GM: 20 with t-tops
Diplomat Salon VIN starts with GH: 93 with t-tops
Diplomat Medalion VIN starts with GP: 356 with t-tops
Salesman was blowing smoke.

Thank you very much for that info. The VIN for this car is GH22G9G151184 so the actual number built is 93 not 75. With the Mopar VIN decoder I was able to discover that the car was built in St Louis I am not sure what the sequence #151184  indicates but this gives a little more to go on. I appreciate you sharing your knowedge with me the more I know the better the story as it were. I intend to start rebuilding this car in the spring and will definately be looking to you guys and your expertise in the near future.

I couldn't agree more mostly because the car was built in the states and I now have it in Canada. I hope that as I move forward with the rebuild I will be networking with this site and any others that I find useful and maybe track down a few more. Although the car is showing its age it is 100% original Finding parts may prove to be tough if I can't track any down. But that just adds to the adventure

Sequence 151184 in general means it should have been the 51,184th car to go down the assembly line at that plant.  But they don't always make them exactly in sequence.

All parts still show up except.
Roof Halo and T top seals.
Brads NOS has the last set known, and the price reflects it.
And if in 15 yrs Ive never seen an NOS roof halo, there's just not one one the net.

Car being built in the States is no big deal.
All my M's were built in the States anyways.
