My first ride, 85 diplomat
« on: October 06, 2016, 08:14:42 »

whats up guys, I found this site when looking up more info on dippys. I'm 19 and live in western mass, going to pick up my first car in about an hour, an 85 diplomat.

The car came from Brooklyn and was always garaged, it has 48000 original miles. Maroon paint with matching vinyl top and interior. I'm psyched to bring it home and excited to share whatever progress I make with this lovely vehicle. I am already thinking about how sweet it would be to put a big block under the hood :p

Unfortunately i can't find out how to post a picture on this site, the file size is always too big. heres a link: https://postimg.org/image/g6p8jxzjz/

Got the car home yesterday. Gave it a quick wash and cleaned up the interior a bit. The car ran great on the ride home, for now I think I'm just gonna enjoy it as it is. There are a few issues, the clear coat on the hood and trunk have visible flaws, there's one small spot on the headliner that's sagging a bit, and it kinda smells like mothballs, but other than that it's a great car, I can't wait to take her for a drive.

The only thing I can't quite make up my mind on is wether or not I want the whitewalls facing out. Decisions, decisions..

Wow man! Welcome and that is a beautiful car! I say it all the time on here, I love that color on these cars ESPECIALLY with dog dish hubcaps.

Agreed - if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. Only thing I'd do is flip those whitewalls in so you have blackwalls with those dog dish caps, but again that's just me. Please resist the urge to add a "system", gold or chrome accessories or modern electronics like LED blubs. Please, as a long time Diplomat enthusiast, I just emplore you to respect the car's originality. It's your car, but that's my plea.

Awesome, clean car. Take care of it! If you read around here a little you'll see that these cars are getting rarer by the day, especially in as good of condition as yours is. Again welcome and stick around, you'll learn more than you ever wanted to about the M-body.

Wow it looks nice and clean!
While I like full size GMs between the two the diplomat gets more of my attention.

Very Very nice.  I go along with everything Prospect said.  It is a lovely car in original configuration.  Engine cleaned up well too.

That car is a timepiece!
And keeping it original is a great idea.  It adds value, and makes the car so much more interesting and fun.  If you lived next door to me I'd offer you money to let me borrow it!
