727 Transmission bracket
« on: June 05, 2012, 16:11:40 »

I ‘m looking for the “column shift” shifter Z-bar bracket that bolts to a 727 (M body).

I highly doubt I can find one – so what I am asking for is if anyone who does have one, can they take some measurements (detailed would be nice, but beggars can’t be picky) of theirs so I (or others?) can make one for our own use?

Thank you, in advance,
Bud W

If I see enough people wanting a 727 bracket, maybe I can make a bunch so they can be sold here.

If you're talking about what I think you are they aren't just limited to M bodies and I think it's ones like this that also work.

Does anyone know, for sure, that is what that part looks like (on a 727 M body)?

I bet if you go to a transmission shop, not a chain one, some old timer will have a bucket of them :P

I know the console z bar stuff isn't the easiest to find.
Think the column stuff can turn up.

I know enough parts hounds. I'm sure I can get one if I ask.

No that's not the M body part but it accomplishes the same thing. The M body 727 one looks the same as 904 one except the hole is in a different spot.

I know the 727 is different from 904/998/999 series transmission (bigger bellhousing = shorter bracket and (I think) a different mounting location.

I also “think” the 80's 727 column shift bellhousing bracket are different than the '70's bracket (but not 100% sure).
Also, all other column shifter components are the same on 727 vs 904/998/999 - except for that bracket (that bolts to the bellhousing) on '82-89 M/J bodies (I don't have part books that go older than '82).
Console shifter components are completely different.

The official part number is 4019237 (Dodge calls it a Bracket, Z-Bar).

Earlier forum posts says some full size vans use the same part – which I hadn't confirmed yet.

If I know what this part looks like and general dimension of it, I can either make one, alter one to fit or know what to look for.

Someone here is going to try to take a picture of what they have on their car after the 727 conversion (thank you!), but I thought that surely someone here has one pigeonholed away or has one accessible for pictures and/or measurements.

Thank you,
Bud W

The piece is L shaped, 2 inches by 1.5,  with the two inch piece bolted to 727 trans and the 1.5 piece has the grommet. Tight sqeeze and dark in there.

I ended up cutting about 3/4" or so from the center flat of the 904 bracket and re-welding it together.  Somehow it ended up pretty good and that was just by eyeing it up  :p

That's what I wish I could've done, but I don't have welder or talent to do it. Sure would be nice. I lucked out though, and a member of another well known Mopar site stepped up and sent me one within a couple of days!

Been away from computer.

Thank you for the pictures!

It looks identical to the '60's/70's 727 bracket (and I think I already have one ... or two).
Maybe I was chasing a ghost?

Thank you all for your assistance (many thanks)!
