The "F" Body Dodge Aspen/Plymouth Volare is the most direct predecessors of the Diplomat. The "M" Body cars were derived to be upscale, larger, fancier versions of the "F" body, and the cars are visually very similar. The Plymouth Valiant was in turn the predecessor to the "F" Body.
