wheel bearings?
« on: April 11, 2020, 19:24:53 »

Started hearing some on and off noise from the left front a few days ago, then yesterday the noise got a lot louder all the sudden and the brake pedal goes to the floor and theres a lot of shaking from the front. I took the left wheel off and I can move the brake rotor with my hand  :o so drove home (what else could I do?) the steering felt weird and inconsistent as did the brakes sometimes going to the floor, other times feeling normal (the brakes are very worn)
I'm assuming the wheel bearings are bad

In the next two pictures it looks like the weight on the wheel was grinding against the control arm  :o

Hi Mopar Dan - My guess is that once you take the rotor off, you are going to see some pretty worn parts in there!  Looks to me like complete bearing and race failure - or maybe no cotter pin/tongue washer and the nut backed off.  Either way, most everything in there is probably toast.  It will be fun to see the pieces...  Were those two missing lugs always missing or had you removed them before the picture?  :icon_eek: Fred

Brakes and bearings aren't too bad to replace though it can get expensive in a shop. What will be bad is if the spindle is scored and needs replaced.
You probably won't know until you pull the rotor off.

I have some pictures to upload and a few questions. I will say the spindle doesn't look scored, but I'll believe whatever you guys tell me

this is the first picture I took after getting the rotor off, it looks like part of a wing was somehow caught behind the brake, awhile ago there was a wing in the middle of the road and it somehow got caught by the tire...I though I got all of it out I guess not

next you'll see what I'm assuming is the inner bearing, whatever it is its clearly broken!

at first I thought it was part of the spindle, but it came right off (once again this part is clearly broken)
