just a buzzer,  I'll check and see, I might have one.  Forget how they work, might be able to put 12V to it to see if it works.

Hmmm, oddly enough, my car didn't come with one. I was just under the dash, no teal colored rectangle in sight.  :hmm:

might have had one and someone pulled it out.  They get annoying sometimes and its simple enough to do.

the biggest problem is there's no way to distinguish the key warning chime from the headlamp warning chime, they are the same tempo and style so if you have the same bad habit as i with leaving your keys in the ignition when leaving your car, you'd find that if you leave the headlights on you think it's just telling you to remove the key and then as you walk past the bumper you tell that it's been left on. on GM cars *(and Neon) at least the chime goes extremely fast tempo for headlamps vs. key chime (slow tempo). sometimes on the M bodies the chime/buzzbox isnt directly plugged in like with the horn and signal relays. it is normally on a wire that ends under the dash, the wire can also be eliminated to facilitate a replacement direct pllug in since the wiring is normally different on the box end. the newer chimes have different pattern. btw i'm thinking of using the loud annoying buzzboxes for a clock radio alarm, you won't be able to ignore that!

Nah, it works just fine for general maintainence, and does a good job of teaching you step-by-step how to do things. However, they are lacking in in-depth information, which is where a factory service manual comes in REAL handy.

Just remember this: Any manual becomes somewhat inaccurate after you ditch the lean burn, add headers, and piece your ignition together out of spare parts and bits of house wire.  :whist:

If everyone is talking about that green box thing mine dont have it either and everything works properly. The haynes manual probably wont have anything about it. Its great for reference when youre doing stuff but anything thats specific you need a real service manual.

if you want a reminder tone just run two wires from the door switch, then end it into a little 'piezo buzzer' (dinger from a clock radio) and then when you get out you'll hear a shrieking 'beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEE!' reminding you to remember to either close the door, remove keys, or turn off the lights, trust me that nasty high-pitched screech will jog your memory!  :D

If there is no buzzer there could be a chime module as well, the chime module was different from the buzzer and mounted up near the steering column.  It could be disconnected or bad as well.  All chime functions work when the driver side door is open.
