Title: spikes long overdue update
Post by: spike on November 03, 2017, 23:43:21
Picked up this almost rust free 88 5th ave, bought it to cut up for kevski3's old lebaron coupe as the front floors, rockers and lower quarters are rotted out. Previous owner rattle canned it black and when I went to wash it must of the paint blew off

Which brings me to my latest project/daily winter beater since the bearings in the green dakota engine are bad and it looses oil pressure once warmed up and not worth fixing. Got a hell of a deal on it even though there were no keys for it so I had no idea how it ran, found a key that worked and it fired up with a jump and barely ran, trailered it home and check fluids, trans was super low, added some as it would slip, got it to run half ass decent and took it for a beat, no 3rd gear and it would hammer into reverse and kill the engine, and engine had real bad blowby and couldn't get it to run right, so I yanked the engine/trans from the 88, removed the rust free front clip and installed the rusted/busted one from my high school car, rattle canned it black, threw air shocks in the rear from the 88 and cranked up the torsion bars to fit...get this 31" tires...I love how mean this thing looks now

Earlier this summer me n a buddy went and picked up another 46 dodge wc cab and front clip since the cab is in better shape then mine and it has a few key parts mine missing

Then in  I believe september me n my lil brother drove down to indiana and picked up a 39 dodge wc 1/2 ton chassis since I don't have an original chassis, sold the beat up 39 fenders, yanked the engine/trans and set the 46 cab on it with a pair of fenders (I'm gonna use the 39 nose)

Space is a dangerous thing to have.  I'd fill it up even faster than that. haha  My father picked up a 39 Plymouth coupe.  Then we found a 40 plymouth parts car.  Then we found a 39 Plymouth parts car.  Then we found a 37 DeSoto parts car......  Slippery slope.   :D

Got the trans fixed in the 5th, governor valve was gummed up and stuck, and since the trans was out I yanked the engine out ro repaint it since all the paint was flaking off
Title: Re: spikes long overdue update
Post by: spike on November 04, 2017, 21:52:30
And while it was out I also put a aluminum 4bbl intake on, block hugger headers, and throw a small cam in, but I still need to order a k-car brake booster to put the badass fab valve covers on
Title: Re: spikes long overdue update
Post by: spike on November 04, 2017, 21:59:24
And when they call em block huggers...theu arnt lieing
And since the k-frame drags on the ground, I had to run the exhaust above the tie rods, which was not an easy task, it may not look pretty but it works

I also finially got the rest of the trim on since it never got put on after it was paintes 7ish years ago

I also swapped out the front springs since the chrome ones did nothing but break and resealed the front cylinders

And my poor lincoln had been through Hell and back the last couple years, engine hatched cause the timing chain guides wore out so I bought and sold a parts car for the engine

Last year I tried taking the ram on a cruise for cancer last year and it started running like crap, scanned it and it was something about #2 fuel injector, got home swapped the injector and checked the wiring and it still popped up, SO I said screw it and ditched the computer and went carbed. So I yanked the engine harness out and chopped out all the unneeded wires

Since the throttle cable loops around to the right side I didn't feel like swapping the gas pedal and trying to find another throttle cable that fit, I chopped up the factory throttle cable bracket and made it fit the carb

And naturally the intake is a squarebore instead of spreadbore so I had to buy an adaptor and also had to buy an adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Hey lsm where's your build thread? How you liking the FI?
I didn't have one because unlike you I don't have the talent to do all my own stuff, so I had mechanic install and tune it. I like it a lot! I had to send back the first Fuel Command Center (I don't have in-tank pump) due to failure, but all good since and I got a new one with zero hassle or cost from Summit. I don't know if you were around when I dropped in a stroked 360 either. I got that from Muscle Motors out of Michigan, and it dyno'd on engine dyno with carb at 468hp/525tq.

Couple of pics on this thread but that's it: https://www.dippy.org/forum2/index.php?topic=15885.0 (https://www.dippy.org/forum2/index.php?topic=15885.0)

Well got home from work at aboit 9:30pm, swapped out the ecu and ballast for brand new ones I bought today and still no spark, after dickin around for a good hour and getting nowhere I threw the lame-burn back on and it popped right off...oh and its 25ยบ and snowing out

Yup bought the limo about 4 years ago off my buddy when I was still in Texas

Cool..
I still want a limo sometime. Came close right before the florida tornado.. good thing I missed out on that car LOL

From the pics that push bumper seems like it might look better if it was cut a bit shorter still so the top of the grill sticks up over it. It looks like it's the other end that bolts to the bumper that limits the customization much more tho.

I always wanted a 5th ave limo (for obvious reasons) but when my buddy wanted me to sell this one for him I couldn't let it go and bought it from him

Yeah it would look better if the top bar wasnt so high but I didn't want the bottom to hang down too low either

Title: Re: spikes long overdue update

My current project with the limo is the roof, all the plastic slides/tracks broke so the glass would flop around, but in order to change it i had to gut the interior
Title: Re: spikes long overdue update
Post by: spike on November 11, 2017, 18:37:11
The old sunroof was bolted in which made it easy to remove, but to prep the roof for the new one was no easy task, had to use screw drivers and hammers to chip away the layers of bondo
Title: Re: spikes long overdue update

And when I mean chip away I'm not lying, this $h!ts ridicules
Title: Re: spikes long overdue update
Post by: spike on November 11, 2017, 19:20:29
But we did get the sunroof welded in and got a patch welded in above the right side window, and started finish welding the roof, when ot was built the only spot welded the patches every couple inches, so I'm goin back and welding it 100%

I thinking to cover up their horrible patch work and to help make the roof look more "plush"

I do need more garage space, especially since I can't put the limo in either one right now lol

Plan is to finish the roof, redo the interior, clean up the engine bay and make it a fun driver again

Does Wisconsin require you to have a CDL to drive it?  When that is done you've got the ultimate party wagon.

Not at the moment but I can grab some I'm the morning. They would fit better on a stock one as they could go down below the tie rods, but with the k-frame being able to lay on the ground that wasn't goin to work so I had to o do it the difficult way and go above the tie rods and bash em to fit

I also redid the hydraulic setup in the limo, it was done similar but it was janky, there was 3 batteries under the spare tire, the setup flexed so much the spare tire mount punched a hole in the center battery, and the pumps had two tanks back to back, the battery hold downs are actually the extra piece that were cut from the rear axle brace

Well I've been up for 37 hours, spent about 22 at the shop working on the limo roof getting the sunroof situated right, had to make a support brace for it, ground down most of the old bondo, welded up all the seams 98% and used long stran fiberglass bondo over all the welds, now need to buzz down the high spots and go over it all again with short stran bondoglass

First pic is the Bondi dust left from grinding it all down, second pic is all the seams I had to weld up (dark lines), hopeful it won't crack anymore

The car is running 13s, but the conti kit had a 14" hubcap so its now got a 14" wheel. Not exactly functional, just looks better lol. It was real hard to cut up a perfectly good wheel

Looks exactly the same as the one I have.  Yeah, bolts right in.  The pin that slides in to secure the pedal is going to be a complete pain in the ass though.  I think I had to sleeve mine to get it to fit correctly.  The eyelet is bigger in diameter than the original.

Well it was too cold out to fire up the heater in the garage and I don't have materials to work on the roof, so I went into work and sprayed the vinyl top trim and antenna for the limo and the booster for the 5th. I just threw the main base color and cleared it so I can scuff ot up again and throw a lil somethin somethin on em
