One of the benefits of living on the Space Coast was watching this fly right over head several times as a kid as the Shuttles returned home.

I worked nights for a long time.
One day I said I'll watch the Shuttle launch and call it a day...and :blink: :(

Later in life, working at PD, every time one landed, 911's would light up from the sonic boom. "I heard a bomb go off", or something similar. It would definitely get your attention. Rattle windows and cause you to jump.

The boom was when the shuttle would land at home at Kennedy Space Center. When it would land in Houston, they'd fly it back on the 747. One of the things I remember so well is how LOUD that 747 was coming so low!!! It was quite a sight. One of those things that pictures don't do justice for.
