'87 Dodge
« on: April 24, 2016, 21:56:04 »

My 1987 Dodge!

The 318 was partially torn down, compression was 140 psi across all 8 so the crank, pistons and rings were left "as is".

Heads taken off for new seats, new comp cam with lifters, pushrods, & double springs (K20-212-2), edelbrock performer intake manifold, Summit 600cfm street & strip carburetor. I upgraded the ignition to HiRev 7500, Accel supercoil (the big honking yellow one), and de-gummed/recurved the distributor. Headers, if you can believe it... side pipes too. Inefficient glass-pack mufflers too  :whist:

14° initial timing, smaller advance springs, and "11R" mechanical advance slot (22° total, allegedly - total of 36° mechanical advance).

Degreased the block & the transmission too, changed all its "soft parts". Hella headlight conversion  8)

New brakes, linings, shocks, front end & steering parts, etc. Still has 2.76:1 rear end, sigh - it takes off like a wounded pig! But it does go like 100 km/hr in first gear  :w00t:

Well......
Not really, for two reasons. First, the headers/glass pack/side pipes make sure nobody doesn't notice it  :whist:
Second, the 2.76:1 rear sure strangles the performance.
But, oh well!

I'd have done the rear gears before the rest of the mods. I'd take a stock car with better gears over a modified car with 2.2 gears. One you swap them, it should wake up nicely!
