Small Block LA 340 Production Figures

Below is a chart showing total production numbers by model year and Chrysler body code for the famous small block LA 340 engine, which saw serious street duty back in the musclecar era of the late 1960s to early 1970s. 

The 340 engine was known as a real screamer due to the short 3.31" stroke, and earned a well-deserved reputation on the streets.  A-body sedans equipped with 340s were known to be able to hold their own against many heavier B-bodies with big blocks.  Stiffer emissions laws and mounting insurance concerns figured in late production drops in compression and horsepower, and finally ended the 340 production run in 1973.
