I didn't do it Mark's way, I did not see it soon enough. I got back in using the forgot password link. Even though I knew my password, I used that method and got in with a new password.

Well... at this point it's Moparfins.com (on SMF and I'm just caretaking), Allpar (on Xenforo), and here (SMF). There are some programming leads I can follow up. I've had to move my daughter over the weekend and will try to do what Tech Support suggested tomorrow.

SMF seems to be buggy as [Edited by Farley's].  I know most other forum software requires a purchase.  If there is a migration path to something better I would be more than willing to chip in,

Thanks, but the issue isn’t so much cost as time! Especially with the white on black. It’s hard to migrate a big forum.

That's great news. I heard from Luke that it's working, too.

SMF is very responsive for forum software, which I like. Also, the appearance can stay as it was before, for the most part. I could probably buy a theme for Xenforo which would keep the white-on-black. These transitions always seem to have problems and losses.

(The one at Moparfins was pretty harsh. I was able to get some help moving it all over, but we lost all passwords because of the encoding mechanisms in the old software, some absolutely antique Windows-only forum. SMF 1.x is still supported! That’s impressive.)

AFAIK the old problem of getting spurious 403 codes is over too.
