The 401 [like your Interstate hwy.] is like 10 laps from the finish in Talladega.
It's all offence driving and nor much to see.
I avoid it.

Beside those rolling side roads are more fun to drive.

Here the leaves either stay green thru Winter, or they just go straight to brown and fall off.

Nice colors...And lsm360, we have a similar issue with most of the leaves here. The leaves here are mostly yellow or brown and fall off. Red only when you get the poison ivy in the trees....

In town there are some maples and sweet gums that show some color, but still not a lot of variety in the plains.

We have maple trees.
Might be a reason for one being on the flag and Canadian maple syrup.

The sugar maples are the prettiest. Mostly they plant the silver maples which are quick growing and show yellow instead of orange or red. You get some color from any sugar maple hybrids, like the October Glory I planted in the back yard for shade this spring. I also get reds from the apple trees in the backyard as well. But noboy can really see them from the street. They sit behind the peach trees.

Gotta hit the leaf sightseeing before the rain and wind rips the leaves off or you can miss the good stuff.

Very true!!! That's also what happens here. The winds on the plains can average 25-35 MPH without gusts on any given day. Gust usually higher, especially when the fronts come through.
