Training Day Chrysler
« on: June 10, 2008, 21:29:48 »

ill keep all the updates on my 5th here!

well i started workin on the 5th today, starting the hydro insall. i got the bars in the trunk goin from frame rail to frame rail to hold the battery rack i made so that its all tied in together. it was a royal b!tch to get up between the gas tank and leaf springs to clean the frame rails so i droped the tank about a hour n a half ago. tomorrow im gonna clean up the frame rails/grind off my old welds and re weld the bars to the frame so i can have nice strong welds. ill also have to patch the sides of the trunk floor where i cut the holes for the bars to run through, and start welding braces between the to to hold the pumps and put the batt rack in. i got all but one of my battery cables made up as i ran out of welding cable to make em out of :hmm:

ill get pics tomorrow also of what i got done so far

A couple more batteries and you might as well convert to a electric motor.

I was wondering about that..do you use an alternator to keep the batteries charged, or are they deep cycle batteries that you charge with an external charger?
You're moving right along with this thing! I admire your skill & motivation, even if I do think the ultimate goal is sorta goofy..just gotta figger out how to convert you to a drag racer.

Cars with hydros never did anything for me, until now.  Maybe because it's in a 5th, I dunno, but I REALLY like seeing updates on this project.  Go kick ass and take names.

Have you figured out how you're going to tackle the front end with the torsion bars?

I can't wait to see the end result, I'm very surprised that I haven't seen anyone else on the board try to do the same thing. You are completely "gung-ho" on this project and I think that is awesome, most people (including myself) take a long time to do even the simplest of projects, very tenacious, that should be your name, tenaciouskid999  :D

:D :D thanks for the comments guys.

as for the front, ill be replacing the shocks with the hydralic cylinders, and hopefully i can fit some small springs in there that i have. with the torsion bars ill just have to back em all the way off so theres no tension there, and take the sway bar out so i can do side to side motions.

and todays update, i pulled the back of the car back into the garage and started doin more cleaning (cleaned some surface rust off the bottom of the trunk floor, remember i pulled the tank, and ill undercoat it then) and cut some pieces and welded em in, had my dad do the overhead welding on the frame as i suck at it, but i did all the welding in the trunk. and i did this in 46* rainy friggin weather in june

this was when i 1st went out, this will be the hight of the battery rack

this is on the passenger side of the trunk floor where the bars go through to the frame (drivers side is ugly right now, gotta patch holes

i cut and welded these for bars in today, the to middle ones will be kinda hiddin under the batt rack, tomorrow i gotta get about a foot more of this steel to go between the bars on each side to bolt the pumps to, theyll be welded in at an angle so the tank end of the pump will be sticking up.

i also burnt the $h!t outta my arms from doin overhead welding, i had sparks/slage fallin down my sleeve and burnin my arms, hurts like a MOFO
