Title: Weez Paid For Tires
Post by: Ice Cold on December 12, 2017, 18:02:18
Or Tyeres  :D

Right after I left my driveway on Mon morning, I heard a 'thump-thump-thump' coming from the right rear.
I stopped, looked, didn't see anything.
Got back in, same thing, so stopped under a new LED street light.
Put a glove on, looked. felt around, see nothing.
Start rolling again 50feet, same thing, then it stopped.

I was hoping it was just some ice caught up, but made sure to check the tire after work.
Tire was half way down, so off to my go to tire guy.

Middle of a Class 3 Death Storm, he took me in and was back out under 1/2hr with no appointment and the place was busy.

The puncture was on a near new snow, but my fronts really sucked and needed a better set for the winter.
So to show thanks, I enquired into some new fronts, got a good deal and got them on today, during a Class 7 Death Storm.

PFFF, big difference turning on snow.

Realizing this is a good time to search tire warehouses for left over summer stock that they want to move.
Found a place with two 275/60/15-reg $230 for $170
Tires on the Lebaron coupe are old and cracked. so better get them now or pay later if you can find them later.

That's a beefy size too.

I once had 245/60/15 out back and they looked small.
275 are monsters, but fills the wheel well of the 79 coupe real nice on stock Mopar rim offset.

Yes, love the look of the full wheel well.

I'm still debating on just going 215/60/15 on the front again or 225/60/15.
Wonder if they would improve handling any, with more meat. :hmm: not there's a problem now.

And driving around the winter wonderland, boy, the new fronts on the F/A are awesome.

On my 1981 Cordoba, I had 235-60-15 on front and 255-60-15 out back on the Mirada style 15x7 rims. The tires were BF Goodrich and they wore really well. I've had some F/J/M cars that the tires wore well on and others that ate tires no matter how much work I did on them.
On my 1979 Cordoba, I ran 255-60-15 on 15x7 Lil Red Express slots on front and 275-60-15 on 15x8 Lil Res Express slots on the back. The B body had huge rear wheel wells, that's for sure.

I've always been impressed how much room here was for a larger tire under most of the Mopars of this era.

I squeezed 285-18-40 on a 10" wheel under the back end on mine in the factory wheel wells.  It's tight, but it fits.  The fronts are 255-18-45 on an 8" wheel and do run the torsion bar at full lock.  They need to be replaced next year, so I'm thinking of 245-18-45 or 255-18-40.

Ice, I think 215/60 is just a bit small. I'd go at least 225.

They look nice for the small front/big back old school effect, but I'm thinking a 225 will improve the handling a bit.

I like the old school look too, but I think the 225 is a good mix of that and the handling you mention.

If you're concerned with handling then the fronts and back should be the same size, or close to it.  I would run a 245 or a 235 in the front and back.  These cars in factory trim won't roll over 235's in the back anyhow.

I had 225/60/15 front and 245/60/15 out back on the Lebaron and ended up not liking the look.
That's when I went big.

Handling has not been a problem at all.

Had the big meats for a dozen yrs. or so.
79 2drs have lots of room.
