My 1986 Fifth Ave.
« on: August 10, 2014, 22:10:42 »

I recently bought a 1986 Chrysler Fifth Ave as I have been looking for a decent one for a long time.  It is a two tone gray and black and also has the optional spare tire on the back bumper.  It needs a new rear bumper as it is rusted as well as some other work.

Looks nice. Kinda unusual to see a 2 tone with hubcaps. The wheel on the back was aftermarket, not optional.

Did they usually come with snowflakes?

Yeah. But I think you could get the wire caps at no extra cost.

The standard wheel cover on the Fifth Avenue was the plastic finned "premium" cover.  You don't see many Fifths with these standard wheel covers.
The wire wheel cover was optional, but was part of the Luxury Equipment package that most Fifth Avenues had.
I don't see that the aluminum wheels were part of the two tone paint package, at least not in the years I had brochures for.

I like those better personally, by the way nice 'Fifth! 8) its a shame there weren't more two-tone ones made

I have always liked the two toned cars, and yours looks like a real find.  Well done.  Hope you have lots of fun with it.

Welcome to the group, as well. :drunky:

Hi, thanks for the comments.  I bought it from a 91 year old man who has owned it since 1989.  It has 62,000 miles on it.  It does need work which I plan to do, as I work in the automotive field.  It sits a little crooked as one leaf spring is new and the other is original and appears to be sagging.  Also seems to be leaking engine oil and power steering fluid from the output seal on the power steering box. One thing I have been wondering is why some Fifths had aluminum A/C lines and others had steel ones.  I have seen '86s both ways. The spare on the rear was definitely added as you can see where the old license plate lights were on the bumper.  I did not know it was aftermarket.  Eventually I plan on putting in a Magnum 318 with fuel injection, but just driving it for now.

The lines like that are aftermarket from being replaced at some point. The originals were the normal black painted ones right up to 1989.

A couple of dash pictures.  I added the tach, which was a cheap ebay one, as I wanted one to fit in the unused dash opening.  I know it is slanted, as I could not read it once I put it in as it was too low.  I don't want to cut the dash bezel as I like a fairly stock looking dash. The tach has a tinted lens so it looks black when the key is off. It will do for now.

Maybe that is why the R12 A/C still works. All the lines are aluminum, so that does make sense.
