Latest Addition to the Mopar Addiction
« on: November 16, 2015, 09:23:36 »

Purchased this over the weekend,
Because it was a deal I just couldn't pass up.

1980 Plymouth Volare Duster.
6 cyl automatic with console and buckets.

The car has a lot of potential and pretty much unmolested.
Very solid car all around.
To sweeten the deal, He threw in a 3.21 ring & Pinion with a sure grip from a AHB,
thats been stored in a bucket of gear oil for years.

I have everything to change this over to a V8 and will do so.
The rear bumper filler is rotted away, so I am needing that if anyone has one.

The console lid is missing and need that too.
This is a back burner for now car, so I dont know how often this thread will be updated.
I just wanted to share my latest find.
I really didnt need to have another project, But this deal was just too good to pass up.
I said I would never have another F because of the rust problems,
But this car is very solid and worth putting Blood, Sweat and Tears into.

Previous owners pics.

Dangit..I need to move I think.

We may be picking up an 89 D100 (same year as my PITA truck I just got rid of) seems to be in a lot better shape..just has an issue with low beams and lack of seatbelt. Dad's working on getting money together..cause he likes it.

Those are great trucks, My DD is a 88 SWB D150.
You may have just gotten a lemon or one that was extremely abused with little to no maintenance.
Just picked up a 88 LWB D150 last month.
it needs a transmission and motor mounts and will be good to go to its next home.
It runs smooth and quiet and has a straight rust free body with nice interior.
it is worth putting back on the road.
the ones that need too much, get parted out to bring other trucks back to life.

I'm thinking (hoping) that's the case. This one seems to be a lot more solid, even though there's surface rust all in the hood and roof.

I'll wait to discuss more until I know he's getting it..if so, I'll probably get a hold of you for parts. I haven't forgotten about those suspension pieces either..just bills have been crazy lately, and we just had to drop 2k on the dog because he ate his tags.

Ill stop the threadjack..lol

Forget the missing rear bumper filler, just saws-all off the trunk on back, and graft a truck bed to the rear of the car.  Then you will really have something!

Parts Needed:

Rear Bumper Filler.
Dash Pad, Any Color.
Console Lid.
A Piller Trim.
Police Speedo.
Vertical Window Louvers.
Rear Spolier.
RR or RT Wheel Flares.
80 Grille.

What makes me mad is the 79 Volare I sold had perfect black interior. :pound:
I really never thought I would be building another F.

First objective is to drop the K-Frame out of the 85 V8 Diplomat parts car,
that doesnt have a engine.

I like to gather parts before I immobilize a vehicle.
The Volare still runs and drives, so I can move it around until swap.

I'm thinking of using the 318/904 from the 87 Diplomat parts car,
Which runs and shifts good, and the AC system was converted to 134A.
That way I can use the same drive shaft from the Volare.
Upgrades can be made later if I decide to go further.

My Coupes have priority over this F, But I have alot of M-Body left overs to put this car together, and make it a V8 car which is more desirable.

Should look for a police oil pressure gauge too (goes where the digital clock is if I remember correctly).
The police speedometer is pretty hard to find and usually pretty expensive, you might want to find a 1978 or earlier just to get a 100 mph speedometer rather than 85.

Great Idea!
Anything is better then 85.

I have seen the Cop F speedometers pop up now and then.
Your right, they are pricey.

Items like that are the last on the list, unless a good deal comes around.

First goal is the K-Frame V-8 swap.

I'm amazed it has the console - so many of these were very plain even with buckets there was often an empty space or the jump seat rather than a console.

Yeah, That was the main reason for the purchase.

This is the type of window louver I would like to find.
The Horizontal ones are ok, I like these best.
