My inheritance: Chrysler Fifth Avenue 1984
« on: May 07, 2017, 19:59:48 »

My grand-father passed last january at the venerable age of 99 yrs.
The family had no plan for his last car, they wanted to send it to the scrap yard
I convince my mother, who is in charge of the sucession, to give it to me because I wanted it since several years now and I want to give it a second life

Chrysler Fifth Avenue 1984, always kept in a garage until now

I manage to start the engine after several years of storage

120 000 kms original everything
it needs good brakes, 4 shocks, probably new tie rod ends and 4 tires

Nice looking car.

Most of what it needs comes from it's low mileage status. Sitting doesn't help a car that was driven so seldom.  Good luck and keep us posted as to what you do.

Thanks for saving her from the scrapper!

Waaaay too nice to scrap!
You have a nice clean body to start your restore.
Keep it off the salty streets in the winter and she will be nice for many years to come.

Nice car! Buy a quality cover for it if you don't have a garage.

Great car and your Grandfather's choice of vehicles shows how smart the older generation really are. Sorry to hear of his passing, but then 99 years is a long life. I hope it was a happy life and a peaceful passing.

Thank you for saving his car, welcome aboard and let us know how we can help.

4 KYB GR2 to redo the suspension not installed yet
4 white side all season tires  used but nice
3 chrome wheel trimming to replace the missing and broken ones
2 1986+ hubcabs with all the wires (I have 2 broken ones)

fixed
new battery and redid the main wires
carburetor now idles properly
transmission now engage smoothly
hose from the engine manifold to the air filter
most of the big rust was sanded down to bare metal and sprayed with a scellant, a proper light body work /paint touch up will follow

fix the leaking fuel line
fix the sloppy steering play
check the front calipers
bleed the old brake fluid from the lines

I'm sure your grandfather would be happy to see you taking care of the car, it sounds like you're having fun with it so far!
