Woodward 2017 and some forum lore
« on: October 29, 2017, 10:51:28 »

This post is long overdue!   :D

I got my Dad into the hobby about seven years ago.  He had always been a Jeep guy, so it didn't take a whole lot of convincing after seeing how much fun I was having with my car.  I bought my car in high school back in 1999 off of a classmate - not a real interesting story.  My Dad's on the other hand has a pretty good backstory rooted in this forum.

It used to belong to a member here named Tom.  Tom used to live in Michigan about ten minutes from me.  I helped him strip a parts Diplomat and in the process met Dariusz (Diplomat360) and Woodvark.  Tom had a Diplomat S-type coupe with t-tops that we drooled over - a 360/727/8.25 car.  This was in the early 2000's and I even had an opportunity to by the car off of him, but had to pass as I was a broke college student at the time.  Tom ended up moving out to Washington State for work, just north of Seattle.

Fast forward six years....  Dad has the bug and we've been looking at J bodies for a couple months, but hadn't been able to find anything that wasn't a rust bucket.  Around this time Dad was sent out to Washington on project work and I remembered Tom was out that way with the coupe.  After contacting him I discovered he still had the car and was open to selling it.  During Dad's last week on the project I flew out to Washington to meet him and we drove up to Tom's.  Spent half the day there talking Mopars and Dad bought the car on the spot.  He had it shipped back to Michigan and we've been working on it ever since.

Over that time it's gone from a 360/727/8.25 car to 408/518/9.25 along with many of the same chassis suspension upgrades mine has along with a completely new interior and paint.  Dad and I have been to every Woodward cruise since he got the car 2007.

This year we had primo parking at a gas station on Woodward and 18 mile.

Diplomat360 met up with us too and brought his completely restored Coupe.  His is one of those car you could drive onto mirrors at a judged show it's clean.

At the end of the night on the way back we pulled into a Home Depot parking lot to put the corks on the exhaust dumps and a photo op.  This photo was taken with a six second exposure time.  Had a great time.  Would be really cool to get more members together next year!

Mark and Ron (Ron, have you started attending this forum yet??? LOL),
That was a great meet-up. I wish we (my daughter and I) had more time to spend there that day, needless to say I completely concurr - we need to meet up more often and build a good sized event for the F/M/J-body crew!!!

Both you and your dad have awesome cars. Everyone on the forum should take a look at these rides, well done, good amount of thought put into what makes the final package.

...you know...so we missed the Milan outing this season...I'm freezing my ass off right now as I'm building a little stand to put away our canoe, but next spring, watch out...we are going RACING!!!

About time there were some pics.
I started to wonder if I was the only one with a half ass camera and a M that sees cruising.

I'm not into Woodward, but sure would like a M get together.

So, Erieau was nice.
Was going to see if there was any interest of a M meeting there.
Nice scenery with 3 sides of water and pretty quiet with all the amenities.
Darius and I where there on Labour day Sunday and it was great.
No mobs.

Also St Thomas Mopar Day, you can run real 1/4 mile or on Friday's it's open track.
Those are other possible locations.
