The best part about this thread, is it's coming from the guy who said "screw gas mileage, I'll drive my big block forever!" (Or something to that effect).  :p

I was the same way  :D  I can go one way or another,  Really good gas mileage and a slow car or good performance and comfort and bad on gas.  the Imperial was the closest compromise.

I dunno what really high gas mileage is really like. :hmm:
Have'nt had a 4 banger since the late 70's- early 80's.
My /6's get just as good as a 76 Bobcat,76 Datsun B210, 71 RX3 or 73 Celica. :p

Other than that it's been 318's

Since I live in location/location/loctation, 90% of everything is within 2 miles.
Including wrecking yards. Too cold to look but have been told it ain't good. :(
Sometimes 2 locations for the same chain within same distance N or S.

far as gas mileage goes, a lot of brand new vehicles w/ V8s with all the high-tech computers and OBD I, II, OR III can't hold a candle to a  well-kept 318 5.2L carbed V8, even w/o a catalyst. i think it's funny how the park owner had a '05 Chevy 1500-HD that got 12.5, and now has a brand new Ram SXT that tops it at 10.1, his estimate.

I laugh at that. even my Fifth Avenue does a lot better without all the crap. and it's 24 years old. where you make up for in a 4 banger on gas you pay for in repair. what you lose in gas on an old car you save on repair. either way the 40MPG Hybrids won't pay back the gas you lose, and then you got a ton of very expensive batteries to replace down the line.

Also FFV is pure crap. it saves no money to the owner, it just makes it possible to use a more expensive fuel and return the same crappy mileage. the above Ram SXT is a FFV. and E85 is a dollar higher than gas here.

Give up performance for gas mileage? NEVER! I don't wanna take my baby out in the salt, but come summer I'll be back out on the street with a bad-assed low 10 second ride that still pulls 40 mpg and tops out at around 180mph.

Slightly less trunk room, but hey..ya gotta give up SOMETHING for economy, right?

OOOhhhh, I've seen those things on Youtube.

Be great for 90% of my travel, cause we are close to the world. Name it and it within 2 miles.
No $ to DIY.
I can still get by w/ $500 M's

Nah, my '99 ZRX1100 with mild mods..bumped the compression a little, mild cams, rejetted carbs, full titanium exhaust..

I actually test drove a SMART car a couple weeks ago. Thinkin' 'bout retiring the Subaru for something newer/higher MPG..it was highly claustrophobic, to say the least..I'd have to fold my dog in half & zip tie his legs together to fit him in the back end of that silly little thing. It WAS sorta fun to drive in an "Oh my GOD, this is WAY TOO FAST for a golf cart!" kind of way..

The 'SMART' is just a Golf Cart with a small gas engine. maybe electric (ones in Key West you rent are electric-only or similar type, maybe not SMART) they have a radio, wiper, etc but yeah, i had more room in a Geo Metro. and those are cramped enough

The ones in Key West though had no doors. just an open cab with a roof. but they did appear similar and had the basics like radio, wipers, etc.

If i had the resources i could take my Go-Kart and add those features and a bigger engine (say a Honda 250) and have one that goes faster. it'd be sweet around a RV park. if not unique to say the least.

Did anyone ever see the 'P-50' from the 1960s? it was a actual car so small that it could be toted like a wheeled-bag from behind and go inside and everything :D

Too lazy to get all geared up when I can just jump in the car.
Also the other drivers around hear suck when you are on a bike.
Much better in a M.

The hot rod Smarts would be fun an pratical for me.

i wish i had the $650 to spend on a Moped. the one i got crapped it's gearbox and the parts cost more than the bike's worth. :( too bad i missed being on two wheels. the bike i got is too rare to find parts for other than going straight to Honda themselves. the clutch cover w/ bearing is over $200 alone. it was a Honda Elite CH150 (water cooled 4 stroke, 150cc) that i got for free. the problem is most out there see the Honda Elite as being only made in a 49cc, 2 stroke style, which i'll admit is more common, as the CH150 was only made in 1985 model year only. the newer model of the same bike will not interchange.
