Finally...my several years long search for a cheap M body project car is OVER. Picked her up yesterday in southern Pennsylvania near the Delaware border. 14 hours on the road were all worth it... :w00t:

It's an 87 civvy Gran Fury, 318. Virtually rust free! Just some faded paint. Runs good, probably needs some carb attention. Everything works, except the AC. Has cruise but has a non-cruise stalk. :brow: Needs tires and brakes. I think a de-lean burn and a Mopar Ignition kit will liven her right up.

Update 09/25/12: Engine work more or less done. Removed lean burn, installed Holley Street Dominator single-plane aluminum intake, Carter AFB (9636SA) 625 CFM 4 BBL carb, HEI style ignition (specifically Pro Comp style Ready-to-run distributor) w/ Pro Comp high output coil, new plugs, new wires. Removed A/C system and added Dakota idler pulley (thanks 79dodge4ever). Removed a trunk-sized cardboard box full of vacuum lines and wiring.

Alot of people thought me crazy for going with a small port single plane intake...but with the 302 heads and the port match, plus a relatively small CFM carb it performs very well. Very well indeed.

Set timing, added fuel and she fired on the first blip of the key. Starts first try, idles smooth, and after some adjustment of the kickdown/TV linkage finally gets passing gear (never did before) and she really moves. Considering the 2.2 rear end, I am very impressed with how this car moves. Doesn't seem to want to rev much past 4400 RPM but it'll get to 125 easily. Burns rubber with a stab of the gas where it couldn't do a brakestand in the rain before. So, that's it for the engine unless I blow it up. Now on to paint and body (white) and maybe an 8.25 rear end/5-leaf spring swap.

All with the help of you all! Thanks!

all was well with it?

Yes sir, what a great solution. Not sure what I would have done without that idea! Thanks!

i like the abandoned gas station shots
the lights in the rear window wired to the taillights?
if so i like how you were able to keep the cop look with em and still have em legally functional

Yeah back in the day, from the 70's on up until about 2001, police cars (most of them) had these auxiliary brake lamps mounted on the rear package shelf, at least in New York State. Not sure why they stopped putting them in, but they since have.

When I think of the Diplomat's and Gran Fury's in my area in service as police cars in the 80's, I remember those auxiliary brake lights. Since I am making my car into an AHB clone, I put them in. I don't think they were ever intended to be police style emergency lights, just aux brake lights. But to me, they scream "police car" and that's what I want my car to do.

They are wired in to the brake lights and come on with the brakes and turn signals.

i thought the police cars that had em had em wired as flashers for when they have people pulled over or whenever the lightbar (if equpied) was lit up.

I suppose they could have been wired like that in some places, but every one I've ever seen they were wired in as aux Stop & Turns.

Mine had those lights in the package tray. Had an upright with a crossbar between them
