Kind of back with an R body now too
« on: October 09, 2018, 12:11:36 »

I kind of bought an R body. A New Yorker with a 360. It's simultaneously awful and not too bad- with a mix of needing things you can actually get for them and things that will have to be mailordered from New Jersey for too much money.

Yeah, What he said^^^

What year? I owned a '79 St. Regis and even the stealership showed it as a '79 Monaco in their books.

I'll take better pics after I powerwash it. She's a '79. Air blows cold and three windows work. That running thing needs some work though but it does start alright. (ish, starter wire/solenoid is loose) Next day off I'll probably do a lot more work on it.

Here it is as-is. I've been kinda busy and haven't been able to clean it up yet. Certainly a bit of a project.

Now, with expectations appropriately lowered- here it is cleaned up some. I think I'm going to put a '73 340 intake and some 4 barrel on the 360. I'm thinking that will happen when I do the fuel pump. Water's clean and good, oil's not terrible. May just need valve cover gaskets and a good cleaning of the motor. I think this actually has 87k miles.

Looks like you did ok!  It's good to have you back around these parts again.  Don't be such a stranger.

R bodies are cool because mechanically they are really a 1973-1974 B body under the skin so there's all kinds of possibilities.

I always thought those R Bodies looked like they were designed by stylists Iaccoca brought with him from Ford.  Compare an R Body to a mid 80's Mercury Grand Marquis.

That's most of why I got it, however it wasn't a sudden deal. I really love B bodies, especially given the couple I've driven. (a '69 Charger and a '73 Satellite) It was converted to electronic ignition but they left the lean burn carb which seems to be why it ran poorly. Today is my day I'll get time to work on it even though it'll be a bit cold.

Or Buick, depending on the R body model. The Newport especially has a lot of Buick style in it.
