Just do it right and gert it welded. It won't cost much and you'll never have to deal with it again.
That's the plan I decided to go with. I will try and get a pic of it posted here before I get it welded.

Soooo, I haven't had time to mess with this, and the leak is minimal. Today I was moving the gas tank over and discovered the problem. I didn't even think about the axle vent. The shroud for it was absolutely packed solid with mud dawbers (no idea how to spell it so I spelled it like it sounds). They find all the little nooks and crannies.

There was nothing alive in there. Just the so called mud packing the vent shut.

Poor choice of words.....How about debris that didn't allow the axle to properly vent.

You ain't kidding. It is nice when it works out that way once in awhile. Since the axle couldn't vent where it was supposed to it was forcing fluid out wherever it could.
